Start with your airport luggage
Think about the fullest journey of your holiday: the transfer from the airport with every passenger and suitcase aboard. A car that works for two beach bags may feel very different with checked luggage, cabin bags and a stroller. Write down the number of bags and their approximate sizes before comparing vehicles.
Ask whether the luggage fits with every required seat in use. Folding the rear seats is not a solution if someone needs to sit there. Send the rental team your passenger and luggage details and ask them to suggest a suitable available model.
When to compare economy cars
Start with the economy category if you are travelling as a couple or a small party with light luggage. Compare the actual seating, boot space, transmission and features on the vehicle listing. Do not assume that every compact car has the same capacity.
Request a total quote for your dates rather than comparing headline daily prices alone. Include the extras you need in both quotes so you can compare equivalent rentals. Fuel use also depends on the model and how you drive; a category label is not a fuel-cost estimate.
When an SUV may suit your group
Consider an SUV when passenger comfort, easier access or extra luggage room matters to your group. Check the specific model: an SUV badge does not guarantee room for several large suitcases, and different models can have very different rear-seat layouts.
If you need child seats, explain how many and ask about the seating arrangement. For a larger group, compare a minivan as well. Count people and luggage together instead of choosing only by the advertised number of seats.
Match the vehicle to permitted routes
Do not treat an SUV booking as permission to drive off-road. Ask about the exact roads and destinations on your itinerary, the vehicleโs suitability and the rental restrictions. Confirm these points before planning an unpaved route, even if a navigation app suggests it.
If a planned destination is outside the permitted use of your rental, discuss another way to visit it. For general island driving information, read the Aruba Tourism Authorityโs driving guide alongside the instructions supplied with your car.
Your quick checklist
- Number of adults and children
- Suitcase sizes, stroller and other bulky items
- Pickup and return dates and location
- Preferred vehicle features and planned destinations
Frequently asked questions
Does an SUV always have more luggage space?
No. Compare the actual model and the space available with all required seats in use. Share your suitcase sizes when requesting a recommendation.
Can I take an SUV on an unpaved road?
Confirm the route and rental restrictions with the rental team first. The SUV category alone does not establish whether a road is suitable or permitted.
