Returning a Rental Car in Aruba: Fuel & Checklist

Plan your rental return before the last morning of your Aruba holiday. Check the fuel requirement in your agreement, confirm the handover location and leave time for your onward journey. Your booking instructions determine the actual return procedure.

    Check the agreed fuel requirement

Look at the fuel level recorded at pickup and the return requirement in your agreement. Do not assume the tank must be full or that unused fuel will be refunded. If the instructions are unclear, ask the rental team before making your final fuel stop.

Rental companies can offer different fuel arrangements. Enterprise, for example, describes both prepaid fuel and returning the vehicle at the received level. That is an illustration of why policies should be checked, not a statement of the fuel terms for your Hermanos booking.

Prepare for your final fuel stop

Confirm the correct fuel type for your vehicle at pickup and use that information when refuelling. Plan a fuel stop as part of your return route and check that the station you intend to use is open. Avoid leaving this until the moment you need to hand back the keys.

Keep your receipt and photograph the fuel gauge when you return the vehicle. If you are unsure whether the level meets the agreement, ask the team to check it with you. Ask in advance how a fuel shortfall or refuelling service would be charged rather than guessing the cost.

Separate car return from airline check-in

The rental return time and your flight departure time are different appointments. Confirm the exact handover point and any onward transfer arrangements, then allow time for the vehicle inspection, luggage unloading and getting to the terminal.

Follow your airline and airport guidance for check-in and departure formalities. There is no single return buffer that suits every flight or handover. If your flight changes, ask the rental team whether your return time can change and whether it affects the rental price.

Finish the handover and keep your records

Check the seats, boot, door pockets and charging ports for personal belongings. Remove your phone pairing and saved navigation information where possible. Return keys and rented extras as instructed, and take a final set of photos showing the car’s condition.

Where a representative is present, review the condition and fuel record together. Ask for confirmation of return and an explanation of any outstanding amounts. Keep your agreement, receipts and handover records until any payment or deposit questions are resolved. If returning outside staffed hours, arrange the procedure beforehand.

    Your quick checklist

    • Confirm the return location and time
    • Check the fuel requirement and correct fuel type

    • Remove belongings and retain return records

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need to return the tank full?

Follow the fuel requirement in your confirmed rental agreement. Ask the rental team if the starting level or required return level is unclear.

Can I return the car later if my flight changes?

Ask the rental team to confirm a revised return time and any price difference. A flight change does not automatically change your rental agreement.
